Der viermalige Champion LeBron James hat in der Basketball-Profiliga NBA den ewigen Punkterekord gebrochen und Kareem Abdul-Jabbar nach 34 Jahren als die Nummer eins abgelöst. Im Spiel seiner Los Angeles Lakers gegen Oklahoma City Thunder kam der Superstar am Dienstag (Ortszeit) bereits am Ende des dritten Viertels auf 36 Punkte und verbesserte sich auf 38.388, Abdul-Jabbar (75) hatte seine Karriere 1989 mit 38.387 Punkten beendet.
Der 38-jährige James spielt seine 20. NBA-Saison, der 19-malige Allstar holte zwei Titel mit Miami Heat und je einen mit seinem Heimatklub Cleveland Cavaliers und L.A. James, Olympiasieger von Peking 2008 und London 2012, wurde zudem je viermal als MVP (wertvollster Spieler) der Hauptrunde und der Finals ausgezeichnet.
"King" James, aufgewachsen in Akron/Ohio, wurde 2003 im Draft als Nummer eins von den Cavaliers ausgewählt. 2010 wechselte der Superstar nach Miami und gewann mit dem Klub zweimal die Meisterschaft. Nach der Rückkehr zu den Cavs (2014) holte er 2016 seinen dritten NBA-Ring und verabschiedete sich 2018 Richtung L.A. Die Lakers führte James 2020 zum 17. Titel, die Kalifornier teilen sich den Rekord seither mit den Boston Celtics.
