Nürnberg erreicht Viertelfinale als einziger Zweitligist
Der 1. FC Nürnberg steht als einziger Zweitligist im Viertelfinale des DFB-Pokals. Der viermalige Pokalsieger setzte sich im Achtelfinale gegen den Ligarivalen Fortuna Düsseldorf im Elfmeterschießen mit 5:3 durch und zog nach zwölf Jahren wieder ins Viertelfinale ein. Nach der regulären Spielzeit und der Verlängerung stand es 1:1.
Taylan Duman (90.+3) hatte die Mannschaft von Trainer Markus Weinzierl in die Verlängerung gebracht, in der Florian Flick wegen einer Notbremse die Rote Karte sah (120.). Der zweimalige Cupgewinner Düsseldorf hatte die Runde der letzten Acht nach dem Tor von Dawid Kownacki (33.) lange Zeit dicht vor Augen gehabt.
Vor 25.216 Zuschauern im Max-Morlock-Stadion waren die Gastgeber vier Tage nach der Derby-Niederlage in Fürth (0:1) das aktivere Team. Einen Schuss von Lino Tempelmann lenkte Fortuna-Torhüter Florian Kastenmeier stark an die Latte (26.). Kastenmeier war auch gegen Kwadwo Duah (30.) und Christoph Daferner (32.) zur Stelle.
Die Gäste gingen dann durch ihre erste Chance in Führung. Eine Flanke von Emmanuel Iyoha köpfte Kownacki ein. "Es gab kaum flüssige Aktionen, beide Mannschaften sind verunsichert", sagte der Düsseldorfer Sportvorstand Klaus Allofs in der Pause bei Sky.
Nürnberg blieb auch im zweiten Durchgang zunächst spielbestimmend. Daferner scheiterte aber erneut an Kastenmeier (52.). Auf der anderen Seite setzte Ao Tanaka den Ball knapp über das Tor (55.), Kownacki vergab doppelt (60., 69.).
Der eingewechselte Duman rettete Nürnberg in die Verlängerung, in der keine Tore fielen.
