Zverev in Miami von der Rolle: Aus gegen Nobody Daniel
Alexander Zverev ist beim ATP-Masters in Miami nach einer enttäuschenden Vorstellung direkt an seiner Auftakthürde gescheitert. Der Olympiasieger aus Hamburg unterlag in der zweiten Runde des Hartplatzevents in nur 75 Minuten dem Japaner Taro Daniel mit 0:6, 4:6 und war letztlich chancenlos. Zuvor hatte die Nummer 13 der Setzliste ein Freilos gehabt.
Zverev leistete sich 32 unerzwungene Fehler gegen den Weltranglisten-97., der zuletzt in Indian Wells bereits überraschend Matteo Berrettini (Italien) ausgeschaltet hatte. Nach Doha verlor der 25-jährige Zverev bereits zum zweiten Mal in diesem Jahr ein Auftaktmatch bei einem ATP-Turnier, seine Gesamtbilanz für 2023 lautet 8:9.
Beim vorangegangenen Masters in Indian Wells war Zverev im Achtelfinale am früheren Weltranglistenersten Daniil Medwedew aus Russland gescheitert und hatte aufsteigende Form gezeigt. Das Aus von Miami ist ein herber Rückschlag.
Auch für Jan-Lennard Struff war in der zweiten Runde Endstation. Der Warsteiner musste sich dem Bulgaren Grigor Dimitrow mit 6:4, 6:7 (5:7), 4:6 geschlagen geben.
