Bundestrainer? Weinbuch bringt Frenzel ins Spiel
Der ehemalige Bundestrainer Hermann Weinbuch (63) hat Eric Frenzel (34) nach dessen Karriereende als möglichen Nachfolger in der nordischen Kombination ins Spiel gebracht. "Eric wäre ein guter Bundestrainer, weil er über viel Erfahrung, Wissen und soziale Kompetenz verfügt", sagte Weinbuch in einem Interview mit der Allgäuer Zeitung sowie den Stuttgarter Nachrichten/Stuttgarter Zeitung.
Der langjährige König der Kombinierer kann sich den Rollenwechsel durchaus vorstellen. "Ich will meiner Sportart auf jeden Fall treu bleiben und mich auch weiter für die Zukunft der Kombination einsetzen", sagte der dreimalige Olympiasieger aus Oberwiesenthal: "Ich kann mir gut vorstellen, als Trainer zu arbeiten." Aber nur, wenn die Familie dies akzeptiere. In den Osterferien werde er mit seiner Frau darüber intensive Gespräche führen, sagte Frenzel.
Neben Frenzel hatte sich zuletzt in Lahti auch Weinbuch aus dem Weltcup verabschiedet. Der 63-Jährige stand dem deutschen Team 27 Jahre als Chefcoach vor, Frenzel begleitete er bei allen Triumphen, darunter bei 43 Siegen im Weltcup, drei olympischen Goldmedaillen und sieben WM-Titeln.
