NBA: Suns entlassen Coach Williams
Die Phoenix Suns aus der Basketball-Profiliga NBA haben sich nach dem Play-off-Aus von Trainer Monty Williams getrennt. Das Team aus Arizona hatte zuvor die Viertelfinalserie gegen die Denver Nuggets um Superstar Nikola Jokic mit 2:4 verloren. "Wir sind voller Dankbarkeit für das, was Monty geleistet hat", sagte Suns-Boss James Jones in einem Statement.
Williams (51) trainierte die Franchise aus Phoenix seit 2019 und hatte das Team um Kevin Durant und Devin Booker drei Jahre in Folge mindestens bis ins Viertelfinale geführt. 2021 verloren die Suns die Finals gegen die Milwaukee Bucks, im letzten Jahr scheiterten sie als bestes Team der Hauptrunde im Viertelfinale an den Dallas Mavericks.
Williams, der 2022 noch zum Trainer des Jahres gekürt wurde, ist nach Nick Nurse bei den Toronto Raptors und Mike Budenholzer bei den Bucks bereits der dritte NBA-Coach innerhalb weniger Wochen, der seinen Job los ist.
