Gelobt hat er ihn schon oft, jetzt ist das Interesse auch offiziell: Trainer Xavi (43) vom FC Barcelona würde gerne den deutschen Fußball-Nationalspieler Joshua Kimmich (28) verpflichten. "Wenn es eine offene Tür gibt, wird es Verhandlungen mit Bayern geben", sagte Xavi der Mundo Deportivo: "Klar ist, dass wir auf dieser Position einen Spieler mit einem sehr hohen Niveau brauchen, sonst wird es sehr schwierig, nächstes Jahr" mitzuhalten.
Allerdings steht die Tür bei Kimmich nicht auf, der Mittelfeldstratege sieht seine Zukunft in München. Sein Vertrag läuft bis 2025.
Doch Xavi will notfalls auch persönlich um Kimmich kämpfen. "Der Klub weiß bereits, dass ich, wenn ich jemanden anrufen oder reisen muss, dies tun werde", sagte der Weltmeister von 2010 und lobte Kimmich erneut in den höchsten Tönen: "Er ist ein absoluter Spitzenspieler, der das Spiel auf eine fantastische Art und Weise versteht."
