Viertelfinal-Neuauflage in Paris: Ruud wieder gegen Rune
Vorjahresfinalist Casper Ruud hat bei den French Open souverän sein Achtelfinale gewonnen und trifft in der Neuauflage des emotionalen Vorjahres-Viertelfinals auf Holger Rune. Der 24 Jahre alte Norweger Ruud schlug den Chilenen Nicolas Jarry am Montag 7:6 (7:3), 7:5, 7:5 - der Däne Rune (20) gewann sein Match gegen den Argentinier Francisco Cerundolo im Champions-Tiebreak mit 7:6 (7:3), 3:6, 6:4, 1:6, 7:6 (10:7).
Rune dürfte damit deutlich erschöpfter in das Match am Mittwoch gehen als sein norwegischer Kontrahent. Gegen Cerundolo, der in der zweiten Runde Yannick Hanfmann ausgeschaltet hatte, machte er ungewohnt viele Fehler und musste lange zittern. Rune überstand drei brisante Breakbälle beim Stand von 3:4 im fünften Satz und sicherte sich den Sieg in einer dramatischen Schlussphase.
"Es hat so viel Spaß gemacht heute", sagte Rune nach der Partie: "Ich habe mir am Ende gesagt "entspanne dich, spiele Tennis und genieße es'."
2022 war es während des Aufeinandertreffens zwischen Ruud und Rune in der Runde der letzten Acht hoch hergegangen. Ruud, der in vier Sätzen gewann, rüffelte anschließend seinen jungen Kollegen. "Wenn du auf einer großen Bühne stehst, ist es vielleicht an der Zeit, ein bisschen erwachsen zu werden", sagte er damals.
Schon beim ATP Masters in Rom war es zuletzt zu einem erneuten Duell der Skandinavier gekommen. Im fünften Match gegeneinander setzte sich dabei erstmals Rune durch.
