"Sprachlos": Kiels Torhüter Landin erneut Welthandballer
Torhüter Niklas Landin (33) vom deutschen Rekordmeister THW Kiel ist zum Welthandballer des Jahres 2021 gekürt worden. Damit ist der dänische Nationalspieler der erste Handballer, der die Auszeichnung des Weltverbandes IHF zwei Mal hintereinander gewinnen konnte.
"Sprachlos. Danke", schrieb Landin am Montag bei Instagram. Landin erhielt 24,12 Prozent der abgegebenen Stimmen und landete damit ganz knapp vor dem schwedischen Spielmacher Jim Gottfridsson vom Ligarivalen SG Flensburg-Handewitt (23,87 Prozent).
Auch die übrigen Auszeichnungen der prestigeträchtigen Publikumswahl gingen nach Dänemark. So gewann bei den Frauen die dänische Torhüterin Sandra Toft vom französischen Meister Brest Bretagne, bei den Trainern setzten sich der frühere Bundesliga-Coach Nikolaj Jacobsen (dänische Männer-Nationalmannschaft) und Jesper Jensen (dänische Frauen-Nationalmannschaft) durch.
Landin, der die Abstimmung bereits im Jahr 2019 für sich entschieden hatte, reiht sich damit in eine Riege mit Ausnahmekönnern wie Talant Duschebajew (Spanien), Ivano Balic (Kroatien), Nikola Karabatic (Frankreich) und Mikkel Hansen (Dänemark), die ebenfalls mehrfach ausgezeichnet worden sind. Landin ist allerdings der einzige, dem dieses Kunststück in Serie gelang. Für das Jahr 2020 wurde aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie kein Welthandballer ausgezeichnet.
