Basketball: Auch Meister Ulm von Vechta düpiert
Basketball-Bundesligist Rasta Vechta avanciert zum Schrecken des Establishments. Dem Coup bei Pokalsieger Bayern München ließ der Aufsteiger gegen Meister ratiopharm Ulm einen 86:81 (43:48)-Sieg folgen und festigte damit im Rennen um die sechs direkten Play-off-Ränge seine Platzierung im oberen Tabellendrittel. Ulm hingegen rutschte hinter die MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg auf Rang sieben ab.
Vechta durfte schon zu Beginn des zweiten Viertels bei einer Sechs-Punkte-Führung vom zweiten Sieg gegen einen amtierenden Titelträger nacheinander hoffen. Doch noch vor der Pause leiteten die Gäste die vorübergehende Wende ein und hielten bis in die Schlussphase hinein Kurs auf ihren achten Auswärtserfolg. Vechta bewies allerdings Moral und drehte die Partie letztlich noch zu seinen Gunsten.
Bester Werfer der Gastgeber, die ihren neunten Erfolg in eigener Halle feierten, war Joschka Ferner mit 17 Punkten. Die Ulmer, bei denen Debütant Justinian Jessup noch leer ausging, hatten in L.J. Figueroa und Trevion Williams mit jeweils 16 Zählern ihre erfolgreichsten Spieler.
