Makaay: "Heimvorteil kann Extra-Push geben"
Der ehemalige Weltklasse-Stürmer Roy Makaay hat die deutsche Nationalmannschaft bei der Heim-EM im Sommer auf seiner Favoritenliste. "Mit Deutschland sollte man bei einem Turnier immer rechnen", sagte der 49-Jährige im Interview mit skysport.de: "Der Heimvorteil kann einen Extra-Push geben." Dabei sei die jüngste sportliche Krise beim DFB kein großer Faktor: "Am Ende zählt nur, was im Sommer passiert."
Dabei wird Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann auf die beiden Top-Talente Jamal Musiala und Florian Wirtz setzen. "Wirtz ist natürlich auch ein überragender junger Spieler, aber Musiala ist im Moment noch einen Tick weiter", sagte der Niederländer: "Er kann Vorlagen geben und viele Tore schießen als offensiver Mittelfeldspieler. Egal ob Verein oder Nationalmannschaft, jede Mannschaft hätte gerne solch einen Spieler in ihren Reihen."
Eine Problemposition, mit der sich Makaay bestens auskennt, ist die des Mittelstürmers. Dort klafft beim DFB seit einiger Zeit eine Lücke, die zuletzt Kai Havertz ausfüllte. "Am Ende hilft ein guter Neuner natürlich. Mit ihm allein gewinnst du aber kein Turnier, es muss die gesamte Mannschaft machen", sagte Makaay.
Einer, der für die Stelle ebenfalls in Frage kommt, ist Bayern-Urgestein Thomas Müller. Der 34-Jährige ist längst nicht mehr unangefochtener Stammspieler, "aber dass er nicht nur bei den Bayern, sondern auch bei der Nationalmannschaft eine wichtige Rolle hat, davon bin ich überzeugt", so Makaay, für den die Franzosen die "Topfavoriten bei der EM bleiben".
