Ex-Nationalspieler Stindl beendet Karriere
Der frühere Nationalspieler Lars Stindl beendet nach der Saison seine Karriere. Dies verkündete sein Verein Karlsruher SC am Donnerstag. Stindl war nach acht Jahren bei Borussia Mönchengladbach im vergangenen Sommer zurückgekehrt, um bei seinem Jugendverein auch sein letztes Jahr als aktiver Fußballer zu verbringen. Neben elf Länderspielen brachte es Stindl auf 376 Partien in der Bundesliga sowie 29 Einsätzen in der Champions League.
"Es war eine unglaublich schöne und intensive Zeit, mit vielen Höhen aber auch einigen nicht ganz einfachen Momenten", sagte Stindl: "Für mich ist im letzten Sommer ein Traum in Erfüllung gegangen, zu meinem Heimatverein zurückgekehrt zu sein, im neuen Wildpark zu spielen und dort das erste Tor erzielt zu haben." Sein letztes Karrierejahr sei "etwas unfassbar Besonderes". Nach seiner Wadenverletzung wolle er in der Saisonendphase unbedingt nochmal für den KSC auflaufen.
Bislang absolvierte der offensive Mittelfeldspieler 76 Partien für Karlsruhe. Es sei für das Trainerteam "ein großes Geschenk" gewesen mit Stindl zusammenzuarbeiten, schwärmte Chefcoach Christian Eichner: "Lars hat vom ersten Tag an bei uns seine unglaublichen fußballerischen Fähigkeiten gezeigt und das sowohl in der Liga, auf dem Spielfeld als auch beim täglichen Training." Der Abschied werde "für alle ein ganz besonderer und emotionaler Moment".
Sebastian Freis sprach von einem "großen Vorbild für viele junge Spieler". Stindl stehe "für alles, wofür der KSC steht", führte der Bereichsleiter Profis aus: "Wir werden ihn sehr vermissen."
