Das Olympische Feuer wird entzündet - und geht auf Reisen
Am Dienstag beruft sich die olympische Bewegung wieder auf ihr antikes Vorbild. In einer Zeremonie mit einer Mischung aus Inszenierung und Folklore wird das olympische Feuer im antiken Olympia in den Ruinen des 2600 Jahre alten Tempels der Hera entzündet. "Um ihre Reinheit zu gewährleisten, wird die Flamme immer von den Sonnenstrahlen entzündet, die in der Mitte eines Parabolspiegels eingefangen werden", erklärt das Internationale Olympische Komitee.
Bei der Zeremonie (ab 10.15 Uhr/Livestream bei olympics.com), für die Schauspielerinnen in die Rolle antiker Priesterinnen schlüpfen, werden rund 600 Würdenträger erwartet, darunter die griechische Staatspräsidentin Katerina Sakellaropoulou und Thomas Bach, Präsident des Internationalen Olympischen Komitees.
Die Fackel reist zunächst elf Tage durch Griechenland und wandert durch die Hände von rund 600 Trägerinnen und Trägern, ehe sie am 26. April in einer Zeremonie im Panathinaiko-Stadion, dem Schauplatz der ersten Olympischen Spiele der Neuzeit von 1896, an die Organisatoren von Paris 2024 übergeben wird.
Tags darauf wird das Dreimastschiff "Belem" aus dem 19. Jahrhundert das Feuer nach Marseille transportieren, wo der Fackellauf nach der geplanten Ankunft am 8. Mai auf französischem Boden fortgesetzt wird - das Feuer wird dabei von einer Sicherheitsblase permanent von rund 100 Polizisten geschützt werden.
10.000 Fackelträger werden dann die Flamme durch 64 französische Territorien tragen, ehe sie am 26. Juli im Mittelpunkt der Eröffnungsfeier auf der Seine stehen wird.
