Ein fünfter Champions-League-Startplatz für die Fußball-Bundesliga in der kommenden Saison wird immer wahrscheinlicher. Durch das 1:0 von Bayern München gegen den FC Arsenal sowie das Aus von Titelverteidiger Manchester City (1:1 n.V., 3:4 i.E. gegen Real Madrid) hat Deutschland den Verfolger England ein Stück weit distanziert.
In der UEFA-Rangliste der laufenden Spielzeit weist Deutschland nach den Viertelfinal-Rückspielen der Champions League als Zweiter nun 17,642 Punkte auf, das drittplatzierte England kommt auf 16,875 Punkte. Italien (18,428) führt das Ranking der Europäischen Fußball-Union an.
Der neue deutsche Meister Bayer Leverkusen könnte mit einem Erfolg im Viertelfinal-Rückspiel der Europa League bei West Ham United (21.00 Uhr/RTL) den Abstand auf die Premier League noch vergrößern.
