Alleinunterhalter Lionel Messi hält seinen Klub Inter Miami in der amerikanischen Major League Soccer weiterhin klar auf Play-off-Kurs. Das Team aus Florida gewann am Samstagabend gegen den Nashville SC mit 3:1 (2:1) und steht vorerst an der Spitze der Eastern Conference. Die New York Red Bulls haben ein Spiel weniger absolviert und können wieder vorbeiziehen.
Messi traf nach einem frühen Rückstand zum Ausgleich (11.), bereitete die Führung durch seinen langjährigen Weggefährten Sergio Busquets vor (39.) und sorgte per Foulelfmeter (81.) schließlich auch für die Entscheidung. Der argentinische Weltmeister war an beinahe jeder gefährlichen Offensivaktion des Teams beteiligt, bei dem der Deutsche Julian Gressel erneut in der Startelf stand. In nun neun Pflichtspielen der Saison hat Messi neun Treffer erzielt.
Für Inter Miami, das neben Messi (36) und Busquets (35) in Luis Suarez (37) einen weiteren Star mit Vergangenheit beim FC Barcelona aufbietet, läuft es in dieser Saison deutlich besser als in der vergangenen. Damals verpasste das Team die Play-offs als Vorletzter der Conference deutlich. Bis zur Meisterrunde 2024 ist es allerdings noch ein weiter Weg, sie beginnt im Oktober.
