Tour de Romandie: Lipowitz nur von Carapaz geschlagen
Der Ulmer Radprofi Florian Lipowitz hat bei der Tour de Romandie den Sieg bei der Königsetappe hauchdünn verpasst. Der 23-Jährige vom Team Bora-hansgrohe musste sich bei der Bergankunft nach 151,7 km von Saillon nach Leysin nur Olympiasieger Richard Carapaz (Ecuador/EF Education-EasyPost) geschlagen geben. Carapaz hatte sich auf dem knapp 14 km langen Schlussanstieg zunächst abgesetzt, Lipowitz rückte kurz vor dem Ziel noch heran, am Ende fehlten ihm wenige Meter zum größten Erfolg seiner Karriere.
"Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ich mit den absolut weltbesten Kletterern mitfahren kann", sagte Lipowitz im Ziel: "Aber schon vom Beginn des Anstieges an fühlte ich mich gut und die Beine passten. Leider habe ich Carapaz am Ende nicht mehr erwischt, bin aber sehr zufrieden mit dem Tag."
Quereinsteiger Lipowitz, der bis vor wenigen Jahren noch Biathlet war, geht nun als Gesamtdritter in die fünfte und letzte Etappe am Sonntag. Neuer Spitzenreiter der Rundfahrt durch die französischsprachige Westschweiz ist der Spanier Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos Grenadiers), der am Samstag mit zehn Sekunden Rückstand auf Carapaz Dritter wurde.
Die Schlussetappe am Sonntag über 150,8 km mit Start und Ziel in Vernier ist mit vier Bergwertungen der dritten Kategorie vergleichsweise wenig selektiv.
Bislang einziger deutscher Sieger der Tour de Romandie war Andreas Klöden im Jahr 2008.
