Hungary's Varga leaves hospital after horror Euros injury

Hungary striker Barnabas Varga left hospital on Wednesday after having surgery on multiple facial fractures he suffered in a sickening collision during the 1-0 win over Scotland at Euro 2024.

"Barnabas Varga was released from the hospital in Stuttgart this morning and is currently recovering in his home in Hungary," the Hungarian Football Federation said on X, formerly Twitter.

Varga, a 29-year-old Ferencvaros player, was involved in a mid-air clash as Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn came to collect a cross.

Hungary's players quickly signalled he was in trouble, with captain Dominik Szoboszlai helping to bring on the stretcher as others gathered round their stricken team-mate.

As medics treated Varga, team-mates held up sheets around him before he was carried off the pitch.

Kevin Csoboth grabbed the winning goal in the 10th minute of stoppage time that gives Hungary a chance of still reaching the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams, with their fate to be decided by the results of Wednesday's games.

After the match, Varga's team-mates held up his shirt as they posed for a group shot.
