French decathlete Mayer in Olympics scare three weeks before Games
World decathlon record holder Kevin Mayer suffered a scare just three weeks out from a home Paris Olympics when he tumbled to the ground in the 110m hurdles at the Diamond League meeting in the French capital on Sunday.
Mayer was competing in the third event of a triathlon also including the shot put and long jump.
The 32-year-old Frenchman crashed to the ground after the eighth hurdle, remaining prone on the track with his head in his hands.
Mayer received medical attention before being helped off the track after initially having been sat down in a wheelchair.
Mayer is one of France's best hopes for an Olympic medal.
As well as being the world record holder, with 9,126 points, Mayer is a two-time world champion (2017, 2022) and twice Olympic silver medallist.
