American star Shiffrin failed to make the top 30 after another disappointing run in Italy which left her trailing Robinson by 2.5 seconds and out of the decisive run, which starts at 1400 local time (1300 GMT).

The 29-year-old admitted after two difficult runs on Friday that her goal for the rest of the season is simply to collect points rather than go for wins.

And she was tentative again on Saturday morning as she continues her comeback from an abdominal puncture wound suffered at Killington in November that required surgery.

New Zealand's Robinson leads just as she did after Friday's opening run after clocking one minute and 3.23 seconds, only 0.06 ahead of overall and discipline champion Lara Gut-Behrami.

The second run is set to be a dramatic one as two giant slalom world champions are right on Robinson and Gut-Behrami's heels.

Junior champ Britt Richardson is only 0.07sec off the pace while Friday's winner Federica Brignone is lurking 0.12sec back in fourth and gunning for another victory in front of her home fans.

Newly-crowned world champion Brignone pipped Robinson on Friday and leads Gut-Behrami by 170 points in the overall standings with a second World Cup title in her sights.
