Berliner Tageblatt - Shiffrin takes historic 100th World Cup win with Sestriere slalom

The 29-year-old American took her 63rd World Cup slalom victory, finishing 0.61 seconds ahead of Croatia's Zrinka Ljutic. Another American Paula Moltzan was third 0.38sec behind her teammate.

Shiffrin has held the record for most victories since 2023, having overtaken a record long held by Sweden's Ingemar Stenmark (86).

Shiffrin was leading by 0.09sec after the first run during which world champion Camille Rast hit the deck right at the end of first her run, ruling her out of the second.

She then produced a superb second run, falling to her knees and pulling a double take to check she had pulled off the milestone win.

"Everybody's been so nice and so supportive. All my team-mates, my competitors, the coaches and the fans. I'm so grateful," Shiffrin said as she held back tears.

"Today a lot of things had to go right for me and wrong for others. Camille was going so fast... In the end I did something right too."

The American had been stuck at 99 wins since November's 99th win at at slalom at Gurgl Austria. She then suffered a nasty fall at Killington picking up a serious abdominal injury that kept her out of competition for two months.
