Zverev schlägt Millman sicher und erreicht Runde drei
Alexander Zverev hat auf seiner Titeljagd in Melbourne zum sechsten Mal in Serie die dritte Runde der Australian Open erreicht. Der 24 Jahre alte Olympiasieger aus Hamburg ließ im Duell mit dem Lokalmatador John Millman keinen Zweifel am Sieger und gewann 6:4, 6:4, 6:0. Er trifft nun auf den Qualifikanten Radu Albot aus Moldau.
Nach dem unfreiwilligen Abflug von Novak Djokovic vor dem Turnierbeginn zählt Zverev neben Daniil Medwedew und dem 20-maligen Grand-Slam-Champion Rafael Nadal zu den großen Titelfavoriten. Der 35 Jahre alte Mallorquiner Nadal bewies am Mittwoch beim 6:2, 6:3, 6:4-Sieg gegen den Karlsruher Yannick Hanfmann seine starke Form.
Zuvor waren bereits Dominik Koepfer und Oscar Otte ausgeschieden. Der gebürtige Schwarzwälder Koepfer musste sich dem US-Aufschlagriesen Reilly Opelka (Nr. 23) 4:6, 3:6, 6:7 (4:7) geschlagen geben, der Kölner Otte verpasste den Drittrundeneinzug durch ein 6:2, 2:6, 3:6, 1:6 gegen den an Position 25 gesetzten Italiener Lorenzo Sonego.
Nach Zverev hat Philipp Kohlschreiber am Donnerstag noch die Chance auf den Einzug in Runde drei.
