Asarenka fordert Kontakt zu Peng: "Hat sich nicht viel getan"
Die zweimalige Grand-Slam-Siegerin Wiktoria Asarenka hat dazu aufgerufen, im Fall der chinesischen Tennisspielerin Peng Shuai weiter auf Aufklärung und persönlichen Kontakt zu drängen. "Es hat sich nicht viel getan, was den Kontakt zu Peng Shuai betrifft, obwohl wir von unserer Seite aus weiterhin alles tun werden, um sicherzustellen, dass es ihr gut geht und sie sich wohl fühlt", sagte die Belarussin nach ihrem Zweitrundensieg bei den Australian Open.
Asarenka hatte 2012 und 2013 den Titel in Melbourne gewonnen und ist Mitglied des Spielerinnenrats der Frauentennis-Organisation WTA. "Hoffentlich werden wir irgendwann persönlich von ihr hören", sagte die 32-Jährige über Peng, an deren Wohlergehen es weiterhin starke Zweifel gibt: "Ich denke, das ist das Hauptziel im Moment."
Peng hatte im vergangenen November in einem nur kurz zugänglichen Beitrag im chinesischen Kurznachrichtendienst Weibo über sexuellen Missbrauch durch Chinas Ex-Vizepremierminister Zhang Gaoli berichtet. Ihre anschließende Abwesenheit in der Öffentlichkeit führte zu Protesten und Forderungen zahlreicher prominenter Kollegen und Institutionen wie der WTA nach unabhängig überprüfbaren Sicherheitsgarantien für die Athletin.
Zuletzt hatte sich auch die spanische Topspielerin Garbine Muguruza wegen der mangelnden Aufklärung im Fall Peng besorgt gezeigt. "Es vergeht Monat für Monat, aber es geht irgendwie nicht vorwärts", kritisierte die zweimalige Major-Siegerin.
