Sweden to play Switzerland in Olympic women's curling final

Sweden's women curlers defeated Canada on Friday to set up an Olympic title showdown with Switzerland, who eliminated the United States.

Sweden beat Canada 6–3 in the semi-finals.

Olympic champions in 2006, 2010 and 2018, the Swedes took bronze four years ago in Beijing, after a semi-final loss to eventual champions Great Britain.

The Swiss, led by Silvana Tirinzoni and Alina Paetz, beat the United States 7-4.

"It's indescribable, to be honest," said Tirinzoni.

"We have achieved so many things together in the last eight years but this is even better than everything we have done so far."

Switzerland, the world champions on multiple occasions, will try on Sunday to win their first Olympic title in the women's event, after two silvers in 2002 and 2006.

Defending champions Great Britain failed to qualify for the last four.

In the men's tournament, Sunday's final will be between Great Britain and Canada -- the two nations that finished second and third respectively in 2022 in Beijing.

Defending men's champions Sweden were eliminated early in the preliminary round.
