Nach USA-Umzug: Klosterhalfens "Bindung an Deutschland sogar verstärkt"
Topläuferin Konstanze Klosterhalfen hat sich durch ihren Umzug in die USA nicht von ihrer deutschen Heimat entfremdet. "Generell hat sich meine Bindung an Deutschland sogar verstärkt. Heimat war mir immer wichtig. Ich wurde und werde in Deutschland immer mit offenen Armen aufgenommen. Das schätze ich sehr und dafür bin ich sehr dankbar", sagte die gebürtige Bonnerin, die in Portland lebt und trainiert, den Zeitungen Münchner Merkur/tz (Samstagausgaben).
Bei den European Championships in der bayerischen Landeshauptstadt will die 25-Jährige nach dem 5000-m-Vorlauf-Aus im Juli bei der WM in Eugene - auch als Folge einer Corona-Erkrankung - wieder an alte Stärke anknüpfen. Die jüngsten Leistungen stimmten sie zuversichtlich.
"Dieses Gefühl, wieder Stärke in mir zu haben und konkurrenzfähig zu sein, war ganz wichtig für mich. Das hat mir auf jeden Fall Selbstvertrauen für München gegeben", sagte die WM-Dritte von 2019: "Ich bin allgemein in einer besseren Situation als vor der WM, wo ich auch nochmal eine Trainingspause einlegen musste."
In München will Klosterhalfen über 5000 und 10.000 m antreten: "Ich wollte immer schon mal einen Doppelstart versuchen. Vor heimischer Kulisse ist nun ein guter Zeitpunkt dafür."
