Basketball: Herbert streicht Benzing für die Heim-EM
Basketball-Bundestrainer Gordon Herbert lässt sich mit seinem endgültigen Aufgebot für die Heim-EM (1. bis 18. September) Zeit. Nach den Testspielen in Belgien und den Niederlanden reduzierte der Kanadier sein Aufgebot auf 14 Spieler. Nicht mehr im Kader für den Supercup in Hamburg (ab Freitag) stehen der langjährige Kapitän Robin Benzing, Kenneth Ogbe (Oldenburg) und Leon Kratzer (Bonn).
Beim EM-Auftakt am 1. September in Köln gegen Frankreich werden nur noch zwölf Spieler zu Herberts Team gehören. Nick Weiler-Babb von Vizemeister Bayern München, der erst kürzlich die deutsche Staatsbürgerschaft erhalten hatte und aus privaten Gründen bislang in der Vorbereitung fehlte, darf sich beim Supercup beweisen. Dort trifft die deutsche Mannschaft am Freitag auf Tschechien.
