Bierhoff fordert "Wiedergutmachung" in Wembley
Die EM-Revanche gegen England wird für die deutsche Fußball-Nationalmannschaft nach der ernüchternden Niederlage gegen Ungarn alles andere als ein Freundschaftsspiel. "Das ist der letzte Test vor der Nominierung, wir wollen Wiedergutmachung und Vertrauen sammeln, das ist enorm wichtig", sagte DFB-Geschäftsführer Oliver Bierhoff, und er forderte: "Wir müssen mehr an uns glauben."
Für die Nations League ist das Duell im Londoner Wembley-Stadion bedeutungslos. Deutschland kann nicht mehr Gruppensieger werden, die Three Lions stehen vor dem Abschluss als Absteiger aus der A-Liga fest. Doch beide Teams benötigen im prestigeträchtigen Spiel dringend Rückenwind für die WM in Katar (20. November bis 18. Dezember).
"Wembley ist immer besonders", berichtete Ilkay Gündogan, der in England bei Manchester City spielt. "Mit der Nationalmannschaft ist es noch einen Tick besser von der Stimmung her. Gegen England gibt es nie Freundschaftsspiele." Das Ziel sei, das 0:1 (0:1) gegen Ungarn aufzuarbeiten und es "so schnell wie möglich besser zu machen".
Die WM-Erwartung wird jedenfalls nicht heruntergeschraubt. "Das Ziel bleibt", betonte Bierhoff, Deutschland wolle ins Finale: "Klar wird man nach dem heutigen Spiel fragen: Wie kann man das sagen? Aber wir fangen beim Turnier von null an."
