Bochums neuer Trainer Letsch "von Klassenerhalt überzeugt"
Thomas Letsch hat sich klare Ziele für seine neue Aufgabe als Trainer beim Fußball-Bundesligisten VfL Bochum gesteckt. "Der gesamte Fokus geht jetzt darauf, den VfL in der Bundesliga zu halten. Ich bin fest davon überzeugt, dass wir das gemeinsam schaffen können", sagte der 54-Jährige bei seiner Vorstellung am Montag: "Es sind erst sieben Spiele gespielt."
Dennoch sei es jetzt wichtig, "sukzessive wieder ranzukommen und dann möglicherweise im Winter nochmal nachzujustieren", sagte Letsch, der vom niederländischen Erstligisten Vitesse Arnheim kommt. Bochum liegt mit nur einem Punkt aus den ersten sieben Spielen auf dem letzten Tabellenplatz, der Rückstand zum Relegationsplatz beträgt aktuell vier Punkte.
"Ich bin mir der Tabellensituation durchaus bewusst", sagte Letsch, dessen Zwei-Jahres-Vertrag auch für die 2. Liga gilt. Aber manchmal sei es nur ein "kleiner Step". Den Schwerpunkt möchte Letsch, der sich nicht als Kumpeltyp sieht, dabei zunächst beim Spiel gegen den Ball setzen. "Wir brauchen eine klare Struktur, Kompaktheit und eine klare Ordnung gegen den Ball", erklärte der Familienvater.
Über die Spieler habe sich Letsch "relativ wenig Informationen geholt, es ist wichtig, unvoreingenommen an die Sache heranzugehen". Doch ein paar Telefonate, unter anderem mit Torhüter Manuel Riemann und Kapitän Anthony Losilla, habe Letsch, der schon für Erzgebirge Aue, Austria Wien und in verschiedenen Funktionen bei RB Salzburg tätig gewesen war, selbstverständlich geführt.
"Wir sind der absoluten Überzeugung, dass wir mit Thomas Letsch keinen Feuerwehrmann geholt haben. Wir planen die Zukunft fest mit ihm", sagte Bochums Vorstandsvorsitzender Hans-Peter Villis. Für Patrick Fabian, Geschäftsführer Sport, habe das Verhältnis "von Anfang an sehr gut gepasst". Gerade beim Thema Führungsstil gebe es eine "große Übereinstimmung".
