Champions League: Kiel wieder in der Spur
Der deutsche Handball-Rekordmeister THW Kiel ist in der Champions League in die Erfolgsspur zurückgekehrt. Eine Woche nach der ersten Saisonpleite in Celje siegte die Mannschaft von Trainer Filip Jicha am Ende souverän mit 34:29 (15:14) gegen den ungarischen Meister Pick Szeged und fuhr in Gruppe B den zweiten Erfolg im dritten CL-Spiel ein.
Die in der Bundesliga noch makellosen Kieler setzten sich Mitte der ersten Halbzeit mit drei Toren ab, die noch punktlosen Ungarn hielten in der Folge aber stark dagegen. In Halbzeit zwei drehten die Zebras dann auf und hatten in Torwart Tomas Mrkva (17 Paraden) einen überragenden Rückhalt. Bester Werfer der Kieler war Niclas Ekberg mit sechs Treffern.
Kiel peilt bei seiner 25. Champions-League-Teilnahme das Erreichen des Final Four an, das am 17. und 18. Juni 2023 in Köln stattfindet. Der deutsche Meister SC Magdeburg hatte am Mittwoch beim 22:29 gegen das Starensemble von Paris St. Germain reichlich Lehrgeld gezahlt.
