Rallye: Rovanperä jüngster Weltmeister der Geschichte
Der Finne Kalle Rovanperä ist neuer Rallye-Weltmeister - und direkt einer für die Geschichtsbücher. Einen Tag nach seinem 22. Geburtstag gewann der Toyota-Werksfahrer die Neuseeland-Rallye rund um Auckland und ist damit der jüngste Champion in der WM-Historie. Diesen Rekord hielt bisher der Schotte Colin McRae, der 1995 mit 27 Jahren den Titel holte. Rovanperä ist Finnlands erster Rallye-Weltmeister seit Marcus Grönholm 2002.
Der Sohn des früheren Weltklassefahrers Harri Rovanperä, spielte bei viertägigem Dauerregen in Neuseeland sein Können von Beginn an aus. Auf der abschließenden Powerstage verteidigten er und sein Beifahrer Jonne Halttunen (Finnland) nicht nur ihre Führung, sondern bauten sie auch noch mühelos aus. Im Ziel hatte Rovanperä 34 Sekunden Vorsprung auf den zweitplatzierten Titelverteidiger Sebastien Ogier (Frankreich/Toyota).
Im Ziel fiel Rovanperä zunächst seinem Vater in die Arme und bedankte sich dann bei seinem Team: "Sie haben mir eine echte Rakete auf die Räder gestellt. Nach einer langen und nicht immer einfachen Saison ist es eine große Erleichterung, endlich am Ziel zu sein."
