Chassis-Wechsel: Schumacher verpasst zweites Training
Rückschlag für Mick Schumacher vor dem Großen Preis von Japan: Nach einem Unfall am Ende des ersten freien Trainings wird der 23-Jährige die zweite Session wegen Umbauarbeiten an seinem Boliden verpassen, das teilte sein Haas-Rennstall am Freitag mit. Schumacher benötige ein neues Chassis.
Damit gehen ihm wertvolle Trainingsminuten vor dem wichtigen Grand Prix in Suzuka (Sonntag, 7.00 Uhr MEZ/Sky) verloren. Schumacher ist bei Haas weiter ohne Vertrag für die kommende Saison, er muss sich über gute Ergebnisse empfehlen - beim verregneten Rennwochenende in Japan rechnet man sich bei Haas grundsätzlich Chancen auf Punkte aus.
Schumacher war am Ende des ersten Trainings bereits auf dem Rückweg an die Box, als er bei zunehmendem Regen und Aquaplaning von der Strecke abkam. Die Front seines Haas prallte in den Reifenstapel, das Auto wurde stark beschädigt. Schumacher selbst blieb offenbar unverletzt, das Training schloss er letztlich als Siebter ab.
Schnellster Mann war Altmeister Fernando Alonso (41) im Alpine in 1:42,248 Minuten, es folgte das Ferrari-Duo Carlos Sainz und Charles Leclerc. Die Aussagekraft der Session war noch überschaubar, die Piloten tasteten sich vorsichtig an die Verhältnisse heran.
Weltmeister Max Verstappen im Red Bull, der am Sonntag (7.00 Uhr MEZ/Sky) seinen zweiten Titel vorzeitig perfekt machen kann, wurde Sechster. Sebastian Vettel beendete die Session gar vorzeitig, mit knapp sechs Sekunden Rückstand lag er auf dem letzten Platz.
