Kombinierer Schmid feiert ersten Weltcupsieg
Kombinierer Julian Schmid hat einen Traumstart in die neue Saison hingelegt und beim Auftakt im finnischen Ruka seinen ersten Weltcupsieg gefeiert. Der 23 Jahre alte Team-Olympiazweite aus Oberstdorf setzte sich nach einem Sprung von der Rukatunturi-Schanze und fünf Kilometern in der Loipe mit 5,9 Sekunden Vorsprung auf den Japaner Ryota Yamamoto durch. Dritter wurde Jens Luraas Oftebro (Norwegen/+11,0 Sekunden).
Schmid, der bislang erst einmal als Dritter auf dem Podest gestanden hatte, war von Platz zwei nach dem Springen knapp hinter Yamamoto gestartet und setzte sich auf der letzten Laufrunde ab. Mit Rang vier überzeugte Ex-Weltmeister Johannes Rydzek (Oberstdorf), der 2016 als zuvor letzter deutscher Kombinierer den Saisonauftakt gewonnen hatte.
Auch Rekordweltmeister Eric Frenzel (Geyer) startete als Fünfter stark in die Saison, Manuel Faißt (Baiersbronn) kam als Zehnter ebenfalls unter die Top 10. Norwegens Topstar Jarl Magnus Riiber, Weltcup-Gesamtsieger der vergangenen vier Jahre, zeigte im Springen ungewohnte Schwächen und kam nicht über Platz 14 hinaus.
