Nasa: Unbemannte Orion-Kapsel hat Mondumlaufbahn erreicht
Die Weltraumkapsel Orion der US-Raumfahrtbehörde Nasa hat am Freitag ihre Mondumlaufbahn erreicht. Etwas mehr als eine Woche nach dem Start der Trägerrakete im US-Bundesstaat Florida sei Orion "erfolgreich" in einen "entfernten rückläufigen Orbit" eingeführt worden, erklärte die Raumfahrtbehörde auf ihrer Internetseite. Die Kapsel soll in den kommenden Jahren Astronauten auf den Mond bringen - das erste Mal seit der letzten Apollo-Mission im Jahr 1972.
Der unbemannte Testflug der Mondmission Artemis 1 soll sicherstellen, dass die Orion-Kapsel sicher ist. Die Umlaufbahn sei insofern "entfernt", als dass Orion "etwa 40.000 Meilen (64.000 Kilometer) über dem Mond fliegen wird", teilte Nasa mit.
Orion wird etwa eine Woche brauchen, um eine halbe Mondumrundung zu absolvieren. Danach soll die Raumkapsel die Umlaufbahn verlassen und zur Erde zurückkehren. Die Landung im Pazifischen Ozean ist für den 11. Dezember geplant.
Die Folgemission Artemis 2 soll dann Astronauten in eine Mond-Umlaufbahn bringen. Mit Artemis 3 soll dann frühestens 2025 eine erneute Mondlandung glücken.
