Polizei umstellt Dorf Lützerath für Beginn von Räumung
Der Räumungseinsatz für das von Klimaaktivisten besetzte Dorf Lützerath im rheinischen Braunkohlerevier hat am Mittwochvormittag begonnen. Wie das zuständige Polizeipräsidium Aachen bei Twitter schrieb, umstellten Polizeikräfte den Ort. Aachens Polizeipräsident Dirk Weinspach sagte dem Sender radioeins des Rundfunks Berlin-Brandenburg, seit Dienstag seien die Vorbereitungen für die Räumung abgeschlossen und die nötige Logistik aufgebaut.
Der Energiekonzern RWE will den neben Lützerath benachbarten Tagebau Garzweiler ausdehnen und die unter dem Ort liegende Kohle abbauen, wozu das von den früheren Bewohnerinnen und Bewohnern verlassene Dorf abgerissen werden muss. Das Unternehmen ist inzwischen Eigentümerin der Siedlung.
Der Konflikt um Lützerath hält seit Monaten an, der Ort ist ein zentrales Symbol für Klimaschutzaktivistinnen und -aktivisten aus ganz Deutschland. Die seit längerem angekündigte Räumung, bei der die Polizei in sogenannter Amtshilfe tätig wird, wird wegen möglicher Eskalationen mit Sorge erwartet.
