Emiratischer Astronaut wird an Bord der ISS während des Ramadan nicht fasten
Der emiratische Astronaut Sultan al-Neyadi wird auf der Internationalen Raumstation ISS während des Ramadan nicht fasten. Er gelte während seines bevorstehenden Weltraumeinsatzes laut Definition als "Reisender", dem es erlaubt sei, "das Fasten zu brechen", sagte al-Neyadi auf einer Pressekonferenz am Mittwoch (Ortszeit).
Das Fasten sei zudem nicht obligatorisch, wenn sich jemand nicht wohlfühle, sagte al-Neyadi. Um die Mission und die Crew nicht zu gefährden, dürfte er "ausreichend Nahrung" zu sich nehmen.
Der 41-Jährige wird als erster arabischer Astronaut sechs Monate im Weltall verbringen. Al-Neyadi, die Nasa-Astronauten Stephen Bowen und Warren Hoburg sowie der Russe Andrey Fedjaew sollen am 26. Februar mit der Weltraumkapsel SpaceX Dragon zur ISS aufbrechen.
Im September 2019 verbrachte der Astronaut Hassaa al-Mansoori, der ebenfalls aus den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten stammt, acht Tage auf der ISS.
Während des Fastenmonats Ramadan dürfen gläubige Muslime tagsüber keine Nahrung oder Flüssigkeit zu sich nehmen. Erst mit Sonnenuntergang ist ihnen das Essen und Trinken gestattet.
