Auch Schottlands nationale Ballettkompanie beendet Sponsorenvertrag mit BP
Wegen der klimaschädlichen Wirkung von Erdöl und Erdgas hat der Energiekonzern BP seine Sponsorenrolle bei der National Portrait Gallery in London und bei Schottlands nationaler Ballettkompanie Scottish Ballet verloren. Die Partnerschaft mit BP sei zu einem "natürlichen Ende" gekommen, teilte die in Glasgow ansässige Balletttruppe am Mittwoch mit. Die Entscheidung, den Sponsorenvertrag nicht zu verlängern, sei gefallen, weil die Aktivitäten von BP nicht zum "grünen Aktionsplan" des Balletts passten.
Das Scottish Ballet hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, bis 2030 CO2-neutral zu werden. BP äußerte sich auf Anfrage zunächst nicht zu der Entscheidung der Kompanie.
Bereits am Dienstag hatte die renommierte National Portrait Gallery mitgeteilt, dass sie den Sponsorenvertrag mit BP nicht verlängere. Das Energieunternehmen hatte seit 1989 den renommierten Portrait Award des Londoner Museums gestiftet. Auch die Royal Shakespeare Company und Schottlands Nationalgalerien haben ihre Verbindungen zu BP abgebrochen, das Nationaltheater in London beendete seinen Sponsorenvertrag mit dem Energiekonzern Shell.
Zoe Lafferty von der Organisation BP or not BP? erklärte, Kulturorganisationen im Vereinigten Königreich träfen "endlich die ethisch richtigen Entscheidungen". Kulturinstitutionen müssten Vorbilder sein "in Zeiten der Krise, statt es zuzulassen, dass durch Kunst Jahrzehnte der Gewalt gegen Menschen und Ökosystem verschleiert wird". Zuletzt hatte das renommierte British Museum in London in der Kritik gestanden, weil BP Sponsor seiner neuen Ausstellung über das steinzeitliche Monument Stonehenge ist.
Schon anlässlich der UN-Klimakonferenz im November in Glasgow hatten Umweltaktivisten das Scottish Ballet und andere Kulturinstitutionen aufgerufen, mit ihren Sponsorenverträgen nicht Energiekonzernen beim "Greenwashing" zu helfen. Auch Künstler verstärkten den Druck in dieser Frage.
