Unbekannte Beatles-Fotos von Paul McCartney in London enthüllt
Die National Portrait Gallery in London hat am Donnerstag fünf bislang unbekannte Beatles-Fotos der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert, die Paul McCartney auf dem Höhepunkt der Beatlemania in den frühen 60er Jahren geschossen hat. "Wenn ich mir die Fotos jetzt Jahrzehnte nach der Aufnahme anschaue, finde ich eine gewisse Unschuld darin", kommentierte der Ex-Beatle in einer Mitteilung der Galerie.
Auf den Schwarzweißbildern sind in einem Spiegel geschossene Selbstportraits zu sehen, John Lennon in Paris, George Harrison mit Sonnenbrille in Miami Beach und Ringo Starr in London. Die fünf Bilder sind eine Vorschau auf eine größere Ausstellung von McCartneys Fotos aus der frühen Beatles-Ära zwischen 1963-1964, die die Galerie im Sommer zu ihrer Wiedereröffnung nach dreijährigem Umbau zeigt.
Die Ausstellung mit dem Titel "Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes Of The Storm" ist aus rund 250 Pentax-Fotos von Paul McCartney kuratiert worden. Der Ex-Beatle hat die verloren geglaubten Fotos nach eigenen Angaben zufällig wiederentdeckt und daraufhin die Portraitgalerie in London kontaktiert.
Ab dem 28. Juni sind seine frühen Erinnerungen an die Beatles auf dem Weg zum Ruhm für drei Monate in London zu sehen. Sie zeigen die Entwicklung der Band backstage bei ersten Konzerten in Liverpool bis hin zum TV-Auftritt in der "Ed Sullivan Show" vor einem Millionenpublikum in New York, die den "Fab Four" zum endgültigen Durchbruch verhalf.
"Alles war damals so neu für uns", sagte McCartney. "Aber ich möchte gerne glauben, dass ich die Fotos heute nicht anders aufnehmen würde."
