Erster Außeneinsatz eines arabischen Astronauten an der ISS
Sultan al-Nejadi aus den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten ist am Freitag als erster arabischer Astronaut zu einem Außeneinsatz an der Internationalen Raumstation ISS aufgebrochen. Die Emirate feierten den Moment als "Meilenstein". Während seines Weltraumspaziergangs trug der 41-Jährige einen Raumanzug mit der Flagge der Emirate.
"Ein neuer historischer Meilenstein", erklärte das Muhammad-bin-Raschid-Raumfahrtzentrum der Emirate (MBRSC). Die US-Raumfahrtbehörde Nasa zeigte einen Live-Stream von al-Nejadi beim Ausstieg aus der ISS. Während des Außeneinsatzes sollte er zusammen mit dem Nasa-Astronauten Stephen Bowen die Installation von Solarpaneelen vorbereiten.
Al-Nejadi hat in seiner Heimat den Spitznamen "Sultan des Alls", den ihm seine ehemalige Universität gab. Anfang März war er zusammen mit Bowen, dem Nasa-Astronauten Warren Hoburg und dem russischen Kosmonauten Andrej Fedjajew an Bord der SpaceX-Rakete "Falcon 9" zur ISS geflogen.
