Chinesische und russische Hackergruppen nutzen ChatGPT für Cyberangriffe
Hacker mit Verbindungen zu den Regierungen in Russland, China, Nordkorea und dem Iran nutzen einer neuen Untersuchung zufolge für ihre Cyberangriffe immer häufiger den Chatbot ChatGPT. Wie ChatGPT-Entwickler OpenAI am Mittwoch auf seiner Website bekanntgab, wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit einer Einheit des Tech-Unternehmens Microsoft die Nutzung des auf künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) basierenden Chatbots durch die regierungsnahen Akteure "gestört" und mehrere Konten gesperrt. Die Gefahr sei "begrenzt", versicherte das Unternehmen.
Microsoft ist ein wichtiger Geldgeber von OpenAI und nutzt dessen KI-Technologie auch für die eigenen Anwendungen und Software. Das Ziel der Partnerschaft beider Unternehmen, einschließlich der Veröffentlichung der neuesten Untersuchungen, sei die Gewährleistung einer "sicheren und verantwortungsvollen Nutzung von KI-Technologien wie ChatGPT", erklärte das Tech-Unternehmen.
Laut Microsoft nutzte etwa die mit dem russischen Geheimdienst in Verbindung stehende Hackergruppe "Forest Blizzard" ChatGPT, um "verschiedene Satelliten- und Radartechnologien auszukundschaften, die für konventionelle Militäroperationen in der Ukraine von Bedeutung sein könnten". Hacker mit Verbindungen zum Iran programmierten demnach mithilfe der KI Schadsoftware; die den chinesischen Behörden nahestehende Gruppe "Charcoal Typhoon" spürte mit ChatGPT Schwachstellen für mögliche Cyberangriffe aus.
ChatGPT ist ein auf fortschrittlicher KI-Technologie basierender Chatbot, der in Sekundenschnelle hochkomplexe Texte generieren kann. Seine Einführung im November 2022 machte die Möglichkeiten sogenannter generativer KI schlagartig einem großen Publikum bewusst. Zugleich wuchsen aber die Befürchtungen über mögliche Gefahren der Technologie.
