Vorwurf Greenwashing: Airline KLM verliert vor Gericht
Die niederländische Fluggesellschaft KLM hat vor Gericht eine Niederlage wegen des Vorwurfs des Greenwashings kassiert. KLM habe Verbraucher mit "vagen und allgemeinen" Angaben zu seinen Bemühungen beim Klimaschutz in die Irre geführt, entschied ein Amsterdamer Gericht am Mittwoch. Die Airline zeichne außerdem ein "zu rosiges Bild" von der Wirkung von Maßnahmen wie dem Einsatz nachhaltiger Kraftstoffe und der Wiederaufforstung von Wäldern.
"Diese Maßnahmen reduzieren die negativen Umweltaspekte nur unwesentlich und erwecken den falschen Eindruck, dass Fliegen mit KLM nachhaltig sei", begründete das Gericht die Entscheidung. Allerdings dürfe das Unternehmen weiterhin generell das Fliegen bewerben "und muss Verbraucher nicht warnen, dass die Luftfahrt derzeit nicht nachhaltig ist".
Die Umweltorganisation Fossielvrij NL hatte die Klage angestrengt. Die meisten der kritisierten Anzeigen waren Teil der "Fly Responsably"-Kampagne von KLM, bei der es sich nach Angaben der Fluggesellschaft um eine "Sensibilisierungskampagne" handelt. Die Airline hat die kritisierten Werbebotschaften bereits zurückgezogen.
In einer Erklärung begrüßte das Unternehmen, dass das Gericht nun "Klarheit" darüber geschaffen habe, "was möglich ist und wie wir weiterhin transparent und ehrlich über unser Vorgehen und unsere Aktivitäten kommunizieren können".
