Zweites Nashorn innerhalb weniger Tage im Erfurter Zoo gestorben
Im Erfurter Zoo ist innerhalb weniger Tage das zweite Nashorn gestorben. Die 17 Jahre alte Nashornkuh Marcita wurde am Freitagmorgen tot aufgefunden, wie eine Sprecherin der Stadt sagte. Die Todesursache war zunächst unklar. Marcita, ein Südliches Breitmaulnashorn, war trächtig. Das Jungtier sollte im Herbst zur Welt kommen.
Der Zoo zeigte sich bestürzt. "Wir sind geschockt, fassungslos und sehr traurig", hieß es auf der Facebookseite. Die Todesursache sei noch ebenso unklar wie im Fall des gestorbenen Jungtiers.
Bereits am Mittwoch war im Erfurter Zoo ganz unerwartet das Nashornkalb Tayo gestorben. Es war erst knapp über ein Jahr alt. Tayo wurde ebenfalls tot in seiner Box gefunden, es gab den Angaben zufolge vorher keinerlei Anzeichen für eine mögliche Erkrankung.
Am Freitag blieb der Zoo tagsüber wegen der Bergung des zweiten toten Nashorns geschlossen, am Abend sollte er aber für ein Fest öffnen. Marcita lebte seit mehreren Jahren im Zoopark.
Im vergangenen August hatten die Nashornbullen Dino und Kiano den Erfurter Zoo verlassen. Dino lebt im Schweriner Zoo und Kiano, dessen Mutter ebenfalls Marcita war, im Safaripark Beekse Bergen.
