Der britische Popstar Ed Sheeran hat in dem gegen ihn laufenden Plagiatsprozess in New York zur Gitarre gegriffen, um seine Unschuld zu beweisen. Wie US-Medien berichteten, gab der 32-Jährige den Geschworenen im Gerichtssaal am Donnerstag ein Gratiskonzert und spielte die entscheidenden vier Akkorde seines Hits "Thinking Out Loud". Damit wollte er beweisen, dass die Akkorde für seinen Hit funktionieren - nicht aber für den Soulklassiker "Let's Get It On" von Marvin Gaye aus dem Jahr 1973.
Gegen den britischen Sänger klagen die Erben von Ed Townsend, einem Musiker und Produzenten, der "Let's Get It On" mit Marvin Gaye geschrieben hat. Sie werfen Sheeran vor, den Song abgekupfert zu haben. Die Ballade "Thinking Out Loud" gewann 2016 einen Grammy als bester Song des Jahres. Der Rechtsstreit um die Plagiatsvorwürfe dauert bereits seit Jahren an.
