Der Erzbischof von Canterbury, Justin Welby, hat die britische Königin Elizabeth II. in der Trauerfeier in der Westminster Abbey als hingebungsvolles Staatsoberhaupt gewürdigt. In seiner Predigt bei dem Staatsbegräbnis sagte Welby mit Blick auf die Queen: "In jedem Fall werden die, die dienen, geliebt werden und in Erinnerung bleiben, wenn die, die sich an Macht und Privilegien klammern, vergessen sind."
Elizabeth II. war am 8. September im Alter von 96 Jahren nach 70 Jahren auf dem britischen Thron gestorben. Nach einer zehntägigigen Trauerzeit findet am Montag das Staatsbegräbnis statt. Nach der Trauerfeier in der Westminster Abbey mit rund 2000 Gästen aus aller Welt wird der Sarg der Queen nach Schloss Windsor gebracht. Nach einem Gottesdienst in der dortigen St. George's Chapel mit 800 Gästen findet am Abend die Beisetzung im Kreis der königlichen Familie statt.
