Bildnis von Charles III. auf britischen Münzen enthüllt
Die Münzprägeanstalt des Vereinigten Königreichs hat am Freitag das Bildnis von König Charles III. enthüllt, das künftig auf den britischen Münzen zu sehen sein wird. Es ist das Werk des britischen Bildhauers Martin Jennings und wurde von Charles persönlich abgenommen.
Die ersten Münzen, auf denen das Bildnis des neuen Königs geprägt ist, sind eine Fünf-Pfund-Sondermünze und eine 50-Pence-Münze, die an das Leben seiner Mutter, Queen Elizabeth II., erinnern. Sie sollen "in den kommenden Monaten" in Umlauf gebracht werden, wahrscheinlich im Dezember, wie die Münzprägeanstalt Royal Mint mitteilte.
Er habe das Bildnis von Charles nach einem Foto gestaltet, sagte Jennings. Es sei das kleinste Werk, das er je fertiggestellt habe. Es mache ihn demütig, wenn er sich vorstelle, dass es nun über Jahrhunderte Menschen weltweit sehen und in der Hand halten werden.
Gemäß der Tradition schaut Charles nach links, während seine Mutter auf den Münzen in die entgegen gesetzte Richtung schaute. Die neuen Münzen enthalten die lateinische Inschrift: "König Charles III., von Gottes Gnaden, Beschützer des Glaubens".
Auf der Rückseite der Fünf-Pfund-Sondermünze werden zwei neue Porträts der Queen zu sehen sein. Elizabeth II. starb am 8. September nach 70 Jahren auf dem britischen Thron. Nach Angaben des Royal Mint Museums ist kein anderer britischer Monarch auf so vielen Münzen zu sehen wie sie.
