Depeche Mode kündigen in Berlin Comeback an
Vier Monate nach dem Tod von Keyboarder Andrew Fletcher hat die britische Popband Depeche Mode ein neues Album und eine neue Tour angekündigt. Das Album mit dem Titel "Memento Mori" sei sowohl von dem Verlust Fletchers Ende Mai als auch von der Pandemie inspiriert, sagte Sänger Dave Gahan am Dienstag vor Journalisten in Berlin. Nach mehr als fünf Jahren wolle die Band ab März 2023 wieder auf Tournee gehen, zuerst in den USA.
In Deutschland wollen Gahan und Martin Gore ab Ende Mai kommenden Jahres in Leipzig, Düsseldorf, München, Frankfurt am Main und Berlin auftreten, zudem in Bern in der Schweiz und in Klagenfurt in Österreich. "Wir dürfen Musik machen und Musik für euch spielen", sagte der 60-jährige Gahan. Er hoffe, dass die Band einen kleinen Beitrag für mehr Freude und Zusammenhalt in einer Welt im dauernden Aufruhr leisten könne.
Es wird die 19. Tournee und das 15. Album für Depeche Mode. Zuletzt erschien 2017 "Spirit". Ihre größten Hits wie "Personal Jesus" oder "Enjoy the Silence" hatte die Gruppe in den 80er und frühen 90er Jahren. Depeche Mode wurden zunächst zum Synonym für tanzbaren Synthiepop, bevor sie nach und nach einen düsteren Sound entwickelten. Insgesamt verkaufte die Band mehr als hundert Millionen Alben. 2020 wurde sie in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen.
