Belgisches Königspaar Philippe und Mathilde zu Besuch in Rheinland-Pfalz
Das belgische Königspaar Philippe und Mathilde hält sich seit Mittwoch zu einem zweitägigen Besuch in Rheinland-Pfalz auf. Ministerpräsidentin Malu Dreyer (SPD) nahm das Paar beim Mainzer Pharmaunternehmen Biontech in Empfang. Dort besichtigten sie ein Labor, in dem zu Krebsimmuntherapien geforscht wird. Anschließend wurden sie im Mainzer Rathaus von Oberbürgermeister Michael Ebling (SPD) im Gutenberg-Museum empfangen.
Dort trug sich der royale Besuch in das Goldene Buch der Stadt ein und besichtigte mehrere Ausstellungsobjekte. Unter anderem wurde eine historische Druckerpresse vorgeführt. Am Mittag war das Königspaar in die Staatskanzlei zum Essen eingeladen. Weitere Termine gab es in Ludwigshafen und Deidesheim, unter anderem beim Chemiekonzern BASF.
"Mit Ihrem Besuch bei uns setzen Sie ein Zeichen für gelebte europäische Nachbarschaft", erklärte Dreyer zum Besuch. Belgien und Rheinland-Pfalz verbinde eine enge Zusammenarbeit. Diese solle vor allem im Energiebereich weiter ausgebaut werden. Das gemeinsame Eintreten für die demokratischen Werte sei mit Blick auf die internationalen Herausforderungen besonders wichtig.
Für den Donnerstag ist am Mittelrhein eine Schiffsfahrt von Sankt Goar nach Boppard geplant. Am Mittag werden Philippe und Mathilde in Koblenz mit der Seilbahn vom Deutschen Eck zu ihrer letzten Station auf die Festung Ehrenbreitstein fahren.
