Nach dem verheerenden Erdbeben im türkisch-syrischen Grenzgebiet hat US-Präsident Joe Biden Hilfe zugesagt. "Ich bin zutiefst traurig über den Verlust an Menschenleben und die Zerstörung durch das Erdbeben in der Türkei und in Syrien", erklärte Biden am Montag im Kurzbotschaftendienst Twitter. "Ich habe mein Team angewiesen, die Situation in Koordination mit der Türkei weiterhin genau zu beobachten und jede notwendige Hilfe zu leisten."
Nach dem nächtlichen Beben ist die Opferzahl auf mehr als 1800 gestiegen. Das Beben der Stärke 7,8 hatte die Menschen im Schlaf überrascht.
