Der in der Dokumentenaffäre angeklagte frühere US-Präsident Donald Trump hat sich nach seiner ersten Gerichtsanhörung in einem Restaurant von Anhängern feiern lassen. Trumps Wagenkolonne legte am Dienstag auf dem Weg von dem Bundesgericht in Miami zurück zum Flughafen einen Zwischenstopp in dem bekannten kubanischen Restaurant Versailles ein, wie Live-Fernsehbilder zeigten.
Trump wurde im Inneren des Restaurants von Anhängern bejubelt, die Anwesenden sangen zudem mit Blick auf Trumps 77. Geburtstag am Mittwoch "Happy Birthday". Der republikanische Ex-Präsident und Bewerber für die Präsidentschaftswahl 2024 sagte: "Ich denke, es läuft großartig." Zugleich sagte er, die USA seien "korrupt" und "im Niedergang".
Trump hatte zuvor in der Dokumentenaffäre in allen 37 Anklagepunkten auf nicht schuldig plädiert. Der Ex-Präsident war vergangene Woche in der Affäre um in seinem Privatanwesen Mar-a-Lago gehortete Geheimdokumente angeklagt worden. Ihm wird unter anderem das illegale Aufbewahren von Geheimakten sowie eine Verschwörung zur Justizbehinderung zur Last gelegt. Am Dienstag musste der 76-Jährige erstmals in dem Fall vor Gericht erscheinen.
