Großbrand in kubanischem Treibstofflager gelöscht
Nach tagelangem Kampf gegen die Flammen ist der Großbrand in einem Treibstofflager in Kuba gelöscht. Der Brand sei am Freitag für beendet erklärt worden, erklärte die kubanische Präsidentschaft im Kurzbotschaftendienst Twitter. Rund 60 Forensiker betraten im Anschluss das verwüstete Areal im Westen der Insel, um die sterblichen Überreste von Vermissten zu suchen. Die Bilanz des Unglücks lautet derzeit zwei Tote, 14 Vermisste und 132 Verletzte.
Der wohl größte Brand in der Geschichte Kubas war am Freitag vergangener Woche durch einen Blitzschlag in einen Treibstofftank ausgelöst worden. Bei dem Feuer wurden vier der acht Treibstofftanks in der Anlage im Industriegebiet von Matanzas zerstört. Jeder der Tanks hatte eine Kapazität von 50 Millionen Litern Rohöl.
Am Mittwoch erklärte die Feuerwehr, den Brand unter Kontrolle gebracht zu haben. Unterstützung hatte die kubanische Feuerwehr von Einsatzkräften aus Mexiko und Venezuela erhalten.
