Prozess gegen US-Milizen-Gründer wegen "aufrührerischer Verschwörung" bei Kapitol-Sturm
In der US-Hauptstadt Washington beginnt am Dienstag (09.30 Uhr Ortszeit; 15.30 Uhr MESZ) der Prozess gegen den Gründer und Anführer der bekannten rechtsextremen Miliz Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, wegen der Kapitol-Erstürmung Anfang 2021. Rhodes und vier weitere angeklagte Mitglieder der Gruppierung müssen sich vor einem Bundesgericht wegen "aufrührerischer Verschwörung" verantworten. Es ist der erste Prozess zum Sturm auf das US-Kapitol vom 6. Januar 2021 mit diesem Anklagepunkt, auf den bis zu 20 Jahre Haft stehen.
Rhodes und die anderen Oath Keepers sollen sich laut Staatsanwaltschaft verschworen haben, um eine Zertifizierung des Siegs des Demokraten Joe Biden bei der Präsidentschaftswahl vom November 2020 und damit einen Regierungswechsel zu verhindern. Der für seine Augenklappe bekannte Milizen-Gründer sprach in einem verschlüsselten Messengerdienst gar von einem "Bürgerkrieg". Der Prozess soll fünf Wochen dauern, am Dienstag beginnt zunächst die Auswahl der Geschworenen.
