Zeitung: Österreich klagt wegen Einstufung von Atomkraft als nachhaltig vor EuGH
Österreich klagt nach Presseinformationen wegen der von der EU-Kommission geplanten Einstufung von Atomenergie als nachhaltig vor dem Europäischen Gerichtshof (EuGH) in Luxemburg. Wie die österreichische Zeitung "Kurier" am Freitag berichtete, wandte sich die Regierung an den EuGH. Das Europäische Parlament hatte die Bewertung von Gas und Atom als umweltverträglich im Juli gebilligt.
Österreich hatte sich von Anfang an dagegen ausgesprochen und mit einer Klage gedroht. Dem Bericht zufolge macht die Regierung in Wien nun Verfahrensfehler geltend und argumentiert, dass die Kommission Entscheidungen von solcher Tragweite nicht treffen dürfe.
Das österreichische Umweltministerium wollte die Information am Freitag zunächst nicht bestätigen, verwies aber darauf, dass sich seine Position nicht geändert habe. Am Montag solle eine Pressekonferenz zu dem Thema stattfinden, sagte eine Sprecherin der Nachrichtenagentur AFP.
Auch Umweltschutzorganisationen haben bereits mit Klagen gedroht. Die Einstufung von Gas und Atomkraft als nachhaltig soll zum Jahreswechsel in Kraft treten. Mit der sogenannten Taxonomie-Verordnung sollen wirtschaftliche Aktivitäten nach ökologischen Standards klassifiziert werden, so sollen Investitionen angekurbelt werden.
Bestimmte Investitionen in Gas- oder Atomkraftwerke gelten dann als nachhaltig, wenn sie die modernsten Technologien nutzen und - im Fall von Gas - noch klimaschädlichere Kohlekraftwerke ersetzen. So will die EU ihre Klimapläne umsetzen und bis 2050 klimaneutral werden.
Österreich hat schon 1978 die Atomenergie verboten und dies 1999 auch in die Verfassung aufgenommen. Das Land mit seinen neun Millionen Einwohnern bezieht derzeit mehr als drei Viertel seines Stroms aus erneuerbaren Quellen, hauptsächlich aus Wasserkraft. Es importiert aber auch weiterhin anders gewonnenen Strom.
