Französischer Schriftsteller Dominique Lapierre stirbt im Alter von 91 Jahren
Der französische Schriftsteller Dominique Lapierre ist tot. Er starb im Alter von 91 Jahren an Altersschwäche, wie seine Frau am Sonntag der französischen Zeitung "Var-Matin" sagte. Bekannt wurde Lapierre unter anderem für seine Werke "Hochzeitsreise um die Erde", "Brennt Paris?" und "Stadt der Freude".
Lapierre wurde am 30. Juli 1931 in Chatelaillon im Westen Frankreichs geboren. Zusammen mit dem US-Bestsellerautor Larry Collins verfasste Lapierre mehrere Werke, von denen rund 50 Millionen Exemplare verkauft wurden. Dazu gehörte auch "Brennt Paris?", das sich auf den Befehl Adolf Hitlers vom August 1944 bezieht, die deutsche Wehrmacht dürfe die französische Hauptstadt bei einem Abzug vor den Alliierten nur als Trümmerfeld hinterlassen. Der deutsche General Dietrich von Choltitz weigerte sich, diesen Befehl auszuführen. Das Buch diente als Vorlage für den gleichnamigen Film.
Von Lapierre stammte auch das Werk "Stadt der Freude". Lapierre, der eine Leidenschaft für Indien hatte, spendete einen Großteil seiner Einnahmen des Werks an humanitäre Projekte in dem südasiatischen Land.
Lapierre lebte lange in Ramatuelle in der südfranzösischen Provence. Ein Tennisplatz trennte sein Haus von dem seines 2005 verstorbenen Kollegen Collins.
